Client overview
- Services: Microsoft Fabric foundations, Salesforce integration, reporting and insights, lightweight governance, AI readiness.
- Technology: Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, OneLake, Fabric Data Pipelines, role based access control, governance policies.
The challenge
CTSC serves diverse communities (Rexdale youth and visually impaired athletes across the Greater Toronto Area), yet data lived in Salesforce silos, requiring manual collation for funders and internal decisions. With expansion on the horizon, the administrative burden risked diverting focus from program delivery. The organisation needed trusted, timely insight to tell its story with data, target equity gaps, and scale sustainably.
What we delivered
nexwave partnered with CTSC to establish a modern reporting platform on Microsoft Fabric, integrating Salesforce into governed, AI-ready insights.
Microsoft Fabric foundations
- Provisioned Fabric capacity with secure workspaces and role based access control.
- Applied governance policies to uphold privacy and responsible use.
Salesforce data integration
- Built automated ingestion pipelines for participants, volunteers and programs.
- Standardised data structures to support consistent reporting and future analytics.
Reporting and insights
- Developed Power BI dashboards tracking participation, demographics and retention trends.
- Delivered automated report packs for funders and the board, cutting manual effort.
Data governance and AI enablement
- Introduced a lightweight governance framework with ownership and stewardship.
- Implemented medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) to support AI use cases such as retention risk and schedule optimisation.
Outcomes
Operational efficiency
- Reporting moved from manual, multi-day cycles to near real-time access.
Funding readiness
- Automated, trustworthy reporting improved transparency for grant applications and partner updates.
Engagement uplift
- Tracking attendee tenure highlights both highly engaged and low participation individuals, enabling targeted outreach to boost overall program participation.
Capacity maximisation
- Monitoring attendance and utilisation rates enables smart overbooking, ensuring more sessions are delivered to more participants without wasted capacity.
Scalable growth
- Fabric architecture supports expansion to new regions without additional admin overhead.
Future ready
- A trusted, governed environment sets the stage for AI driven impact measurement and program design.
Change management and enablement
We co-designed dashboards and definitions with program leaders, delivered role based walkthroughs, and left CTSC with a simple governance playbook so insight creation is repeatable, and trusted.
What’s next
Change Through Sport Canada plans to add new data sources and pilot AI assisted insights to deepen inclusion outcomes, while continuing to streamline reporting for funders and the community.
