AI Applications Solutions Architect

Design and ship AI applications on Azure AI Foundry that integrate with real business systems, not just chat.Full timeAustralia · hybridCloud and AppsView roleHide role

nexwave is a Microsoft-focused consulting partner helping organisations unlock value from data, cloud, AI and intelligent applications. We combine deep technical expertise with a people-first approach to deliver solutions that are scalable, secure and outcome-driven. Our values, integrity, unity, stewardship, courage, agility, mastery and devotion, guide how we work with clients and with each other.

As an AI Applications Solutions Architect you will design and ship real AI products. You will go beyond simple chat to integrate with business systems, databases and APIs, and build modern web and mobile applications on the Azure AI stack, including Azure AI Foundry. How we build matters here as much as what we build.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and deliver Azure solutions: cloud-native applications, API integrations, platform modernisation and intelligent automation across .NET, Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, Azure API Management and Azure App Service.
  • Build web and mobile applications with large language model, machine learning and other AI capabilities.
  • Own solution architecture for client engagements: technical design authority, architecture decision records, and trade-off conversations with stakeholders.
  • Partner with sales on demonstrations, discovery and estimates.
  • Run requirements workshops and build stakeholder agreement.
  • Build infrastructure as code with Bicep or Terraform, and deployment pipelines that are repeatable, testable and production grade. No click-ops.
  • Review and remediate Azure landing zones, security postures and cloud governance.
  • Implement across development, test and production using modern engineering practices.
  • Define and document platform patterns, reference architectures and operating models that delivery teams use across engagements.
  • Produce clear documentation, training and handovers.
  • Work closely with data engineers, project managers and clients as one integrated delivery team.
  • Act as a trusted advisor through ongoing engagement.

How we build

  • Infrastructure as code: Bicep or Terraform, parameterised, source-controlled and peer-reviewed.
  • Platform patterns: landing zones, hub and spoke networking, identity and access, cost management.
  • DevOps: Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions, automated testing, gated deployments.
  • Operating model: architects are embedded in delivery, not isolated in a review board. You design it and you help build it.

What we look for

  • Working knowledge of large language models and machine learning models, and the judgement to know which to use.
  • Experience designing and building cloud-based web applications with .NET or comparable frameworks.
  • Hosting on Microsoft Azure, including Azure App Service, containers and Azure integration services.
  • Exposure to Azure AI Foundry, Azure AI services and Azure AI Search.
  • Exposure to Copilot Studio and Power Platform, combining low-code and pro-code.
  • Familiarity with the wider Microsoft ecosystem: identity, Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft 365 and Power Platform.
  • Strong documentation, presentation and communication skills.

Useful extras: a degree in computer science, software engineering or data science, Microsoft certifications across the Azure application and AI platforms, and a background in professional software development, data science or consulting.

Data Engineer Consultant

Build metadata-driven pipelines on Databricks and Microsoft Fabric, and make client data ready for analytics and AI.Full timeAustralia · hybridData and AIView roleHide role

nexwave is a Microsoft-focused consulting partner helping organisations unlock value from data, cloud, AI and intelligent applications. We combine deep technical expertise with a people-first approach to deliver solutions that are scalable, secure and outcome-driven. Our values, integrity, unity, stewardship, courage, agility, mastery and devotion, guide how we work with clients and with each other.

As a Data Engineer Consultant you will design and build scalable data pipelines on Azure Databricks and Microsoft Fabric, and make that data ready for AI models and intelligent applications.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, build and operate modern data platforms on Microsoft Fabric and Databricks, using medallion architecture (bronze, silver, gold) and reusable notebook patterns.
  • Develop metadata-driven data pipelines using Azure Databricks and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Build and maintain automated ingestion, transformation and orchestration pipelines.
  • Ingest a variety of sources using APIs, event streams and batch connectors, with retries, rate-limit handling and fault tolerance.
  • Integrate diverse source systems, including Salesforce, ERP and other software as a service platforms, into governed, AI-ready lakehouse environments.
  • Apply advanced data engineering practices such as change data capture, schema evolution and change data feed.
  • Design and operationalise merge logic, deduplication and slowly changing dimensions.
  • Implement data quality frameworks, data dictionaries and lineage using the Microsoft Purview hub in Microsoft Fabric.
  • Implement CI/CD for data workflows, with monitoring and governance in place.
  • Work in Git-based DevOps workflows, with version control, bulk edits and validation before release.
  • Apply security and integration practices including role-based access control, column and row level security, and Azure Key Vault secret management.
  • Contribute to engineering standards and reusable assets that scale across engagements.

Tech you will work with

  • Microsoft Fabric (Data Factory, notebooks, lakehouses, warehouses), Databricks, Azure Data Lake, Spark, SQL and Power BI semantic models.
  • DevOps: Git, CI/CD for data, automated testing and deployment pipelines.
  • Governance: Microsoft Purview, data quality frameworks, ownership matrices and medallion architecture.

What we look for

  • Strong experience with Databricks, including Spark, Delta Lake, MLflow and Unity Catalog.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and Azure data services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse and Azure Event Hubs.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL and PySpark.
  • A working understanding of data governance and lineage.
  • Experience in agile, cross-functional teams.
  • End-to-end consulting capability, from gathering requirements through solution design and delivery to enabling the client to run the result.

How the practice works

You are part of the Data and AI practice. Engineering standards here are collaborative, not top-down: you will pair with other senior and principal consultants, contribute to the internal assets we reuse across engagements, and have direct influence over how we do data engineering at nexwave.

Useful extras: dimensional and semantic modelling, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI services or Copilot Studio, and exposure to machine learning operations.

Hiring

How hiring works

Experienced, transparent and human. A recruitment process designed around both capability and candidate care, completed within one to two weeks.

Our recruitment is managed in-house by a Senior Talent Lead with extensive technology recruitment experience and a genuine understanding of the people, capabilities and consulting qualities that enable long-term success at nexwave.

  1. Stage 1

    Apply or connect

Apply for a current opportunity or introduce yourself for a future role. We are always hiring and welcome conversations with talented people whose experience, ambitions and approach may align with where nexwave is heading.

  2. Stage 2

Initial Talent Lead conversation (30 minutes)

Your first conversation is with our Senior Talent Lead. We will explore your experience, career aspirations, motivations and what you are looking for next, while giving you a clear and honest understanding of nexwave, the opportunity and our ways of working.

  3. Stage 3

    Technical conversation

If there is mutual alignment, you will meet an experienced Senior Technical Consultant from the relevant capability. Our technical assessors are experienced in interview-based assessment and will explore your technical depth, problem-solving approach and ability to apply your knowledge in practical client environments.

  4. Stage 4

    Capability Lead conversation

This discussion looks beyond technical competence to explore your consulting maturity, commercial awareness, communication, ownership and ability to create meaningful client outcomes. Depending on the level of the role, it may also consider your experience influencing stakeholders, developing others and shaping capability.

  5. Stage 5

    CTO conversation

The final conversation is with our CTO. It is an opportunity to discuss nexwave's technical direction, culture and ambitions, and to understand how your experience, judgement and aspirations could contribute to our next stage of growth.

  6. Stage 6

Verbal offer, written offer and onboarding

When there is strong alignment across each stage, our Senior Talent Lead will contact you personally to make a verbal offer and talk through the complete package, role and next steps. Once you are comfortable proceeding, the formal written offer follows, and your preboarding begins so you feel informed, connected and ready well before your first day.

Every stage has a clear purpose and a decision at the end of it. We respond to every application within three business days, and most candidates complete the full process within one to two weeks.

Candidate care at every stage

Progression is based on aligned feedback at each stage of the process. Whether you move forward or the fit is not quite right at this point, you can expect open communication, proper feedback and genuine respect for the time you have invested.

Wherever possible, we will share useful insights and practical development recommendations that support your continued growth and a potential future opportunity with nexwave.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you sponsor visas?

We do not currently offer visa sponsorship. Candidates must have existing Australian work rights.

What is the working model?

Hybrid, with flexibility. Core collaboration hours are 10am to 3pm AEST, and you can work from home, a client site or a co-working space. You can also work up to 6 weeks per year from an approved international location, and arrangements are agreed with the Chief of Staff.

Do I need Microsoft-specific experience?

Experience across the Microsoft ecosystem, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Power Platform, Dynamics 365 or .NET, matters for most roles. We weigh capability and learning agility just as heavily. If you have strong data, cloud or application development skills and you want to go deeper on this stack, we want to hear from you.

Our progression framework is Consultant · Senior Consultant · Principal · Lead · Director, and each level has clear expectations. Development is discussed in your quarterly 1:1, with 90-day growth goals: one depth skill, one breadth skill.

How does the referral bonus work?

If you refer someone and we hire them, you receive $500 when they start and another $500 when they pass probation, $1,000 in total for each successful referral.

What is the culture like?

High trust, high standards. We back our people, give them genuine ownership, and expect strong delivery in return. We are direct, supportive and low on politics, and the seven values above are the ones we actually hire against.
